Brief Biography

Dr. Jim Clarke is Professor of the Practice of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt
University and Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Prior to joining the faculty of
Vanderbilt University in the Fall of 2000, he was Chairman, President and CEO of Eckenfelder,
Inc, an environmental engineering and consulting firm focusing on services to the private sector
in the areas of hazardous waste management, contaminated site investigation and remediation
and wastewater treatment.

Jim has expertise and experience in the overall areas of fate and transport of chemicals and radionuclides in the environment, risk assessment for hazardous chemicals and radionuclides, hazardous and radioactive waste management, innovative approaches to the remediation of contaminated sites, environmental forensics and environmental chemistry. His research interests are in the areas of sustainable environmental protection, contaminant containment technology, risk analysis and performance assessment, the
investigation, remediation and long-term management of contaminated sites, and the environmental consequences of energy choices.
